Friday

1. Zac and Zoey had to go in for shots this morning :(
Zackary was getting his 4 year pre kindergarten shots, and Zoey was getting her 2 year shots. It was very sad, but ended in lollipops and now both are done with shots for a few years :)

2. Movie night tonight will feature:
Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs 2!
We have been looking forward to this one for a while.

3. Movie Night treat:
to be topped with vanilla ice cream!
We have been looking forward to this too.

4. Ty is going on another big hike tomorrow. They are leaving at 4 in the morning and climbing a mountain somewhere. I am sending him with snacks and drinks and hope to see him alive and well tomorrow night!

5. The kids and I will be on our own tomorrow so I am thinking our day will go something like this; pancakes, library, Trader Joe's, crafts, lounging, etc....
I am so happy the weekend is here!

Happy Friday!

Weekend Things

1. I have decided that I am totally into coconut. Coconut oil, coconut flakes, coconut flour. Coconut just happens to go great with chocolate so I have been combining the two like crazy!

see what I mean!!!???

2. Ty and I are going to the Nike outlet store tomorrow so that I can pick out some new running shoes! I do so love new running shoes, and I especially love Nike :)

3. Speaking of new shoes....my mom found a nice used pair of Ugg boots in my size at a garage sale for $3. I am so happy about this and so are my feet.

4. Ty has been working all weekend. I can't wait to see him tomorrow and hopefully later tonight. I still really like him!

5. It is almost time for the annual read-a-thon to begin at the kid's school. I dread this event each year, so in preparation for this year's thon, I have been keeping track of all the books we have read for the past month or so. We may be done before it actually begins. I am giddy about it. Is that wrong???

6.  It's my week to drive the carpool. I guess I need to get some snacks together!

7. This is the last week of January. Let's make it a good one!

This and That

1. After almost a full week I think we are finally free of the flu! Everyone is back in school, the laundry is all caught up, I am ready to bake and start eating again!

2. I love THIS LIST.
I think I should try and be much more ordinary this year!

3. Mia and Zoey are both completely smitten with all things Hello Kitty. I hesitate to take them to visit the Sanrio store. I fear we might never leave.

No doubt I need this in my daily life!

5. Things like this happen all the time at our house.

6. It has been 70 degrees all month long with no end in sight. Temperatures are actually supposed to rise in the next few days. Poor Mia is so confused by our lack of seasons. I try to explain to her that we live in a part of the world that does not experience the 4 seasons the way some others do.

I am looking forward to the weekend. We kind of missed out on the last one!

Monday

Our weekend did not go as planned! The 3 younger kids and myself all ended up with Zac's stomach bug!
We ignored the 70 degree weather outside and huddled indoors wrapped in blankets.
It was very sad!
Mia is still recovering so we are staying at home today as well. Max and Ty were the only ones who stayed healthy. Ty is back at work and Max is trying to entertain himself through one more day of quarantine.
Thank goodness he is such a creative little guy!
I am always impressed with his artistic abilities, because he does not get them from me.
I am glad that he likes to create.
Even if what he creates are large green snakes made of play-doh.

Friday

1. I kind of love this!

2.
Strawberries? Bananas? Graham crackers?
all good things.

3. Ty and I went out last night to celebrate his birthday over crab legs. Sadly I had not anticipated a 2 hour wait at the restaurant! We ended up eating cheeseburgers at In-N-Out, which is never a bad thing.
We made plans to try again next week at an earlier time. 2 birthday celebrations are better than 1!

4. Zackary woke up this morning with a stomach bug. It has resulted in 3 loads of laundry and lots of lysol. Poor Zack :(
Hope it passes soon.
Until then he is playing Lego Harry Potter. He likes to play with the sound turned up REALLY loud and I usually make him turn it down, but since he is sick....I am just trying to enjoy the music with him!

5. I love this cute idea for Valentine's Day

6. Thank goodness it's Friday :)

so happy for a 3 day weekend
so glad there will be no more homework until Tuesday

Have a good one!

Matters of Real Importance

Last night Max got on the computer and taught himself how to make claws out of paper.
He made a set for both of his hands and a set for Mia.
In other news.....monsters are taking over our house.
Yesterday we needed to make chocolate chip cookies.
We needed to make brown butter, sea salted, chocolate chip cookies.
Obviously we means me.
Today I made Ty's birthday cake for tomorrow night.
It is a triple layer german chocolate cake.
I am by no means a cake decorator and I am just glad the cake is still standing. I am hoping it holds out until tomorrow.

Tuesday Things

1. Day 2 of this week's carpool. So far so good. I think the secret to happy kids are providing snacks. Yesterday I had a box of powdered sugar donuts in the car and today I am bringing blueberries! ( I hope they go for the healthier swap out!)

2. Dinner Tonight!

3. I love THIS article.

4. I went to Trader Joe's this morning. I came home with 6 grocery bags. If you frequent Trader Joe's you know that 6 bags from that store is a lot! (They are masters when it comes to bagging groceries!)

5. I am making THIS cake for Ty's birthday on Thursday.
Birthday's are fun.

6. We have movie night with the kids every weekend, and in the past I typically brought out ridiculous amounts of candy to enjoy during the movie, but that was getting a bit old. The past few weeks in place of candy I have made just one special movie night treat. It has been a hit.
Last weekend I made a big batch of caramel corn and this weekend I made THIS. (we actually made it twice in one weekend, because it was just that popular!)

7. I am looking forward to the weekend, and spring break, and summer vacation....just saying!

8. The good weather continues. I am actually planning to take the kids swimming tomorrow afternoon. It is crazy delightful.

Happy Tuesday!

Sunday Afternoon

Sunday afternoons are wonderful. I love the quiet time we get to spend together before starting a new week.
After our Sunday supper today, Max and Ty sat down to play Monopoly in front of the fireplace.
Mia and Zac snuggled up on the couch to read together.
365 Penguins was the book of choice.
 I made peanut butter cookies.
and Zoey happily did the dishes.
The sink is her favorite toy.

Sundays are my favorite.

Coming up this week:
I am driving the carpool (always an adventure)
Ty turns 33 on Friday
(we go out to celebrate on Thursday!)
and, at some point there will be cake

Yay!

Friday Faves

Truth...

I do so love southern California winters.

THIS song from the Frozen soundtrack
The girls and I have been watching/listening/singing along for days.

SCANDAL!!!!!

It's my latest watch while working out show.
I am completely sucked in.

I tried to think of something to put it on and ended up eating it straight from the jar.

This Cozy Spot

Perfect for those southern California winters I was talking about!

Massive nerf guns....

and tiny girls!

Happy Friday!

Busy....

I just read an interesting article on Why Being Busy Isn't Respectable Anymore....
I especially liked the part near the end of the piece that talked about using the word, "busy", to answer almost any question.
Life = busy
Work = busy
Family = busy
etc, etc, etc.....

I can completely relate to this. I would love to stop being so "busy".

There is a challenge at the end of the article. For one month remove the word, "busy, from your vocabulary.

What would I replace the word busy with?
When you look up BUSY in the dictionary this is what comes up:

occupied, being in use, full of activity, bustling, foolishly or intrusively active, meddling, full of distracting detail

Being busy suddenly sounds much less impressive. When I think of the word, "busy" at this point it almost seems unorganized and meaningless.

Then I looked up the word PRODUCTIVE and this is what i found:

doing or achieving a lot, working hard and getting good results, producing or able to produce something, causing or resulting in something, effective in bringing about, yielding results

I would love to replace the busy with productive.
I could answer that my life, work, and family were all very productive.

I don't think we have to erase busy and replace it with idle, but there is a lot we can replace it with that will be positive, organized, and peaceful.

Easy

Now that I have been talking about the new year and resolutions for days.....I had a moment of brilliance this morning.
I was at the store with the kids. We were getting chocolate milk and olive oil, and taking a trip down the Valentine candy aisle just for fun. Hard to believe we have to start getting ready for another holiday already! Anyway....the moment of brilliance.....I decided to go ahead and buy all of those ready made/candy included valentines. The kind you simply sign your name to. I bought them today, way ahead of time, and now I am done. I am going to make this year as easy as possible.
That was the brilliant part.
I am going to take advantage of short-cuts and help wherever I can get it. I know this may not make me appear more creative or together, but I have a feeling I won't regret it at the end of the year.

In place of a word for the year I am going to adopt one of Mia's favorite phrases:
Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy

Makes sense to me!

Thoughts for the new year

1. I love southern California winters. Today we enjoyed 70 degree weather and sunshine. The summers here can be brutal, but January and February sure do make up for it! I opened the windows and the kids played outside and ate popsicles.

2. I woke up early this morning for an awesome workout. Exercise is my favorite way to start the day.

3. I filled the fridge with THESE today....

(minus the coffee at our house!!)

I sent some home with my mom. They are pretty amazing!

4.  Some excellent ideas here:

5. I have yet to talk to anyone who made any real resolutions for this year. I have a few ideas for myself. Last year I did really well for about 6 months and then.....not so much! This year maybe I can finish strong!

Happy 2014!!!

Tiny Bench

Ty spent the morning cleaning out the garage.
When I went in to check on him I found him deep in woodworking mode. We recently moved Zoey from our toddler bed into a twin. The toddler bed has been sitting in the garage.
Ty used the little bed frame to make an adorable bench for our little people!

It is Zoey sized and Zoey approved.
I love it! I am always amazed at what my talented husband comes up with :)

We went to Utah

We made the decision to leave for Utah on Sunday morning. We were going and nothing was going to stop us! It was a long day in the car. I was sad to leave the warm behind and enter into the frozen tundra of Utah County.
The kids loved the snow. (Especially Mia!) The skated and sledded all over the ranch.
Zoey enjoyed visiting the "stinky" cows.
 Her coat was so puffy!
Mia loves all animals and immediately becomes best friends with any creature she meets.
She really loved the cats!

I took the girls shopping for boots.
Mia had been talking about a pair of pink cowgirl boots for a while. It just so happened that Target had just her size on clearance.
We got Zoey a cute little pair of booties as well.
 Love my girls :)

Max got a cookbook and made us chicken nuggets for dinner.
He did a great job. I hope his enthusiasm continues and we can all reap the benefits!

It was a quick trip and we were on our way home again first thing Thursday morning.
We stopped for lunch in Vegas.
Tennessee introduced us to Steak and Shake. We love it! We stop in Vegas whenever we can.
There were cheeseburgers and milkshakes and much rejoicing.
We were just glad to be out of the car.
Too bad it took another 5 hours to get home after that! Post holiday traffic was not good to us.
We are happy to be home.
I may never get into the car again.
