Summer Days

Summer is almost over for our family! The kids will be back to school in 3 weeks. Little Miss Mia will be turning 8 and getting baptized in October. I know how busy we will be once school starts so I had her baptism pictures taken early. This is a sneak peek! I can't wait to see the rest. (It's just so princess at the castle!)
Today the kids wanted to paint.
I decided paper bags were a good painting surface.
A little creativity goes a long way.
No one painted the table or themselves, too much, so it was a success! Plus, they all had lots of fun.
 We made cookies.
Trail mix cookies filled with oats, chocolate, and dried cherries.
I did a little painting myself, because it looked like fun. It was!

Life Lately

We had a party for my little niece, Kaylee. We brought the cupcakes!
Chocolate cupcakes topped with ganache and different candy combinations.
Tonight we are having a special Pioneer Day celebration for Family Home Evening.
It involves this little homeade tabletop campfire.
The kids and I took advantage of the cool weather and drove to Oak Glen.
It was seriously chilly! Hard to believe it is the end of July.
 We visited the friendly goats.
Then we wandered over to the little candy store.
Everyone picked out a treat. Zoey got a few candy sticks.
Mia got a combination of rock candy and jelly beans.
Max got a chocolate covered marshmallow.
Zackary got himself a good old fashioned, lik n stick. They are his very favorite!
I got myself some chocolate covered cashews.
It was the perfect little adventure for our Monday.

3 more weeks of summer left until school starts again. We are trying to take advantage of the fun time!

Behind the Scenes

Our Utah trip ended so quickly because my grandfather passed away in California. We decided to come home early so that I would be able to attend the funeral. My brother Jamison was able to drive down with us. It made for a very full car!
We stopped for lunch in Vegas at Steak and Shake. Jamison had never been. After lunch we continued on our long drive home....which soon became very very much longer! The air conditioning in the car stopped working. It was probably 110 degrees in the desert and we had 7 people stuffed in the car.
We pulled over so that Ty and Jamison could have a look. Zoey and the others wandered the desert landscape while we waited. The guys were able to get the air working again, truly a blessing from the Lord! We were on the road again and stuck in traffic in no time! 5 hours later we were home. Jamison and I were able to join the rest of my family the next day for the funeral. We were so glad we were able to be there!

Hauling Hay in Utah

We went to Utah for the annual Newman reunion. We stayed with Ty's parents in Payson. We were only able to stay for a few days so we made the most of our time.
We tried to hit a few of our favorite Utah restaurants. We started with Taco Time and the next day stopped at Slab Pizza. We took the kids to the Museum of Natural Curiosity in Lehi. We picked up a beautiful white dress for Mia to wear at her baptism later this year.
On Saturday, Ty and all of his brothers got together early in the morning to haul hay on his parent's land. Ty and his brother Cole had to borrow clothes from their dad for the job.
They looked great!
It was a beautiful day and the guys all worked really hard!
They got the job done in less than an hour.

I love my part-time cowboy husband. I suppose hay hauling is a good life skill.
We drove home on Sunday. It was a super fast trip, but we had a wonderful time!

4th of July Weekend

We started our holiday weekend with a foggy Friday morning at the beach.
We drove out to Laguna first thing and met up with my parents and my brothers.
We spent the morning playing in the sand and splashing in the water.

Ty and I were able to go for a run on the beach. There were plenty of uncles around to help watch the kids! By lunchtime the beach was getting crowded! We packed up and headed to Sprinkles! Salty Caramel cupcakes are the best!
On Saturday we got together at my parent's house for swimming and lots of fun food.
I brought along a jar of homeade hot fudge sauce to go with all of the fruit on this platter. It was delightful.
